Urbana will soon begin a new, state of the art program aimed at reducing the number of squirrels in the city.
The Eastern Grey Squirrel has made its home in Urbana and on the campus of University of Illinois for many years, climbing trees, frolicking around, and eating nuts. However the squirrels are a nuisance, say some, eating garbage, darting out in front of cars, and frightening international students.

“I can think of at least 1 bike accident that involved a squirrel darting out into the road. Luckily, the bicyclist was wearing a helmet and was ok. This is Urbana after all,” said an anonymous source.
The squirrel reduction program is set to begin this April and last until people stop complaining about squirrels digging up their garden. What will happen to the squirrels is unclear as the anonymous source declined to comment.
