On Friday, March 28th 2025 from 10a-12p, Parkland College invites prospective students to tour campus and meet representatives from various departments during their Spring Open House.
It looks like they want people to register, so take a couple minutes to register.
There will be school representatives from many departments as well as Admissions and student support.
This is such a good thing to offer because Parkland is a wonderful resource in our community! Even though U of I is the big school in town, Parkland benefits significantly because there are high caliber instructors in the community. While many classes at UIUC are taught by TAs, Parkland has instructors with usually a Master’s Degree or more or significant experience in the field.
I went to Parkland for IT classes, and while at Parkland, I found my first IT job on Parkland’s job board.
In other news, the Illinois General Assembly is proposing a new law that would enable community colleges like Parkland to offer Bachelor’s Degrees.
A few years ago, my dad made a very interesting observation about Parkland College. He is from the Chicagoland area and is familiar with College of DuPage. He mentioned Parkland has so much land on which to build and expand. The College of DuPage is surrounded by buildings (I didn’t really fact check this, but it makes sense to me, and he is pretty plugged into the education scene up there).
Lastly, Parkland has the second largest Planetarium in the state of Illinois, and I imagine it is one of the largest in a region.
