Last year, I went in to the local elementary school and played math games with 3-4 kids. It was easy and it was fun, and it helped the kids practice essential skills.
The iRead – iCount Programs offer valuable volunteering experiences in Champaign-Urbana Schools!
If you are interested in volunteering your time to help kids, check out the iRead – iCount programs offered through the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce.
As you know volunteering plays an important role in providing services that assist people in the community. The iRead – iCount Program provides the opportunity for community members to connect directly with students to help with reading and math skills.
The program acknowledges that there are students in the community who may be behind in reading in math and that connecting those students with a tutor to work one-on-one on those skills for a few minutes each week may help improve their skills in those areas.
For the volunteers, it is an opportunity to connect with kids and give back to the community.
My personal experience with iRead – iCount has been great! Getting set up was easy – there was just the application, a single orientation session, and a few informational papers to read over. I then went into the school multiple times and tutored kids for about 45 minutes.
