Maybe you have noticed, maybe you haven’t, but Urbana is undergoing an revitalization. imagine Urbana is the City’s Comprehensive Plan. You can review the draft and make comments here.
Even ahead of the new Hotel Royer opening up (accepting reservations May 31 and beyond), a number of noteworthy changes have taken place in Urbana, including:
- The opening of HMart
- The opening of Yellow Rabbit, the Urbana Speakeasy (you can read about my visit here)
- The renovation and planned opening of the Bennet Administrative Center
- The changing ownership of Broadway Food Hall to Smith Burger Co
- The changing of ownership of Cafeteria and Co. to Elm City Coffee
- The success of Gallery Art Bar
- The success of The Rose Bowl
To add to this, DeShawn Williams won the Democratic primary and will take office as Mayor.
And once Hotel Royer is open, that will bring even more business to downtown Urbana.
There are also plans that I have heard for the following:
- The reopening of Blackdog Urbana
- The reimagining of The Iron Post
