I just got an email from Annie Adams for Mayor of Urbana.
For months, I have seen DeShawn Williams, and only DeShawn Williams, running for Mayor.
Well, now there are at least two candidates, so things are going to get interesting.

Election Day is February 25, 2025.
I love Urbana and I think there’s a lot of opportunity for Urbana coming up. I think there have been some good things happening in the downtown area, specifically with the renovation of the hotel and the renovation of the County Plaza. I think the downtown would benefit from even more revitalization efforts.
There needs to be solid partnerships to improve the downtown further, specifically with Lincoln Square Mall.
How cool would it be if Lincoln Square Mall could attract some tech start ups (kind of similar to Research Park)? It obviously wouldn’t be a Research Park, but a couple of startups or things like that in the mall would be really dynamic, and it would be a really good space. Especially, in contrast to Research Park, which is far away from food options.
Another idea would be to partner with Parkland College to open a small unit at Lincoln Square or in downtown Urbana. They could teach fundamental classes there, which would allow students to not have to travel all the way to west Champaign.
Also, this city could really use a children’s museum!
Maybe I should run for Mayor….just kidding!! In any case, both of these candidates are passionate about Urbana, and hopefully Urbana will continue to grow and thrive.
